Place Name
Named after Martha, Mary, and Elizabeth Swinnerton, granddaughters of Charles Milborne, a Hackney landowner who bequeathed them the Marsh Hill estate, on his death in 1812. Swinnerton Road replaced the north-west end of Red Path, leading from Marsh Hill to Hackney Wick, the street being Milbornes’ heirs in 1881.
