A joke name recalling a crossroads that met at a green which until the development of the railway in 1873 stood here. Whitehall Road went to Chingford Hatch; Friday Hill went to Woodford Green; King’s Road went to Chingford Green and Pimp Hall Lane, which was cut-off by the railway track went to Hale End.
