Place Name
Named after Arthur Waring (1851 – 1920), owner of the Woodlands, Chelsfield, whose father William had built the estate after the first was destroyed by fire. Arthur was active in local life becoming a councillor and later, in 1901, Alderman of Kent County Council. He was educated at Eton, and called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1875, although he never practiced as a barrister. He was also a member of the Kent Archaeological Society, and after he retired became a local historian, writing Chelsfield Parochial Notes in about 1912.
