Place Name
Also spelt Farmiloe Road. Named by the property speculator who developed Fraser’s plant nursery in 1908, Thomas Arno, in honour of his mother, Eliza. Arno, a publican, from South Hackney, purchased the site at a time when the area was fast being developed for residential property. He laid out several streets, Avondale Road, Rochdale Road, Northumberland Road and Onra Road, which spelled out his family name. Onra Road also being his surname spelled backwards. Theobald Road and Salcombe Road take the first initials of Thomas’ and his father Samuel’s name. Farmiloe, a surname found in Gloucestershire and Devon.
