Langton Way, CR0

Place Name

Named after Thomas Langton (died January 27, 1501) who had been elected as Archbishop of Canterbury just five days before his death. He had previously been chaplain to King Edward IV, before becoming successively Bishop of St David’s, Bishop of Salisbury and Bishop of Winchester. Like many of the nearby roads it is named after a former Archbishop of Canterbury, who used Croydon Palace and later Addington Palace Mansion as a summer residence.
