Place Name
Named after the 13thCentury Augustinian order Penmon Priory, the remains of which can be seen on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. The origins of the site are traditionally associated with St Seiriol in the 6thCentury. The monastery was dissolved in 1537, during Henry VIII’s land grab against the Roman Catholic Church. Like many of the surrounding roads, this is named after religious houses around the British Isles, particularly those that have fallen into ruin.
