Place Name
The Elers family were large landowners in the Ealing area, although they themselves mostly lived in Chelsea and had large estates in Suffolk, Leicester and Warwick. The original Peter Elers came over from Germany when George I was made king. His only-child, a son, also named Peter was a justice of the peace for Middlesex, in 1715, Thomas junior married Dorothy, the youngster daughter of Thomas Carew, of Carew Castle, Pembrokeshire. Their only son George Elers married Mary Charon, the sole heir to her father’s fortune. George and Mary’s eldest son was called Carew Elers. The name Carew passed down the family line.
