Tine Road, IG7

Place Name

This street, like many others in the surrounding area, owes its name to the medieval Hainault Forest, which for centuries served as a royal hunting ground, both for pleasure and profit. Developers named streets after the types of vegetation, fauna and activities that were connected with the woodland. A tine is a pointed branch of an antler, a reference to the deer that used to roam the forest. This street was laid out during the 20thCentury on former woodland which following the deforestation of the forest in 1851 converted to farmland, and later housing.
