Fawn Road, IG7

Place Name

Types of prey feature in many local street names, including this one the fawn, a young deer in its first year. This road, like many others in the surrounding area, owes its name to the former Hainault Forest, the medieval woodland which became a favourite hunting ground of Tudors and Stuarts, both for pleasure and profit. This street was laid out during the 20thCentury on former woodland which after its deforestation in 1851 converted to farmland, and later housing.
