Place Name
An agister was a minor official appointed by the monarch to settle disputes over rural matters within the countryside such as grazing rights and pigs searching for acorns. Like several other streets in this area its name was chosen to reflect the people, animals and activities once associated with the medieval Hainault Forest. The street was laid out during the 20thCentury on former woodland which after the deforestation of Hainault Forest in 1851 was converted to farmland, before its development for housing.
