Place Name
Originally referred to the “New road at rear of 88-90 Kings Road” by the Engineers’ department, it finally got more fitting recognition following a suggestion by a local resident. Richmond Palace was Elizabeth I’s favourite winter residence as the smaller apartments made the Palace one of her warmest, certainly compared with Whitehall and Greenwich. The Queen described it as: “That warm winter box to shelter my old age.” Mrs J Charlton suggested this unusual street name in recognition of Elizabeth.
