Place Name
Originally plain St Leonards Road. Like St Leonards Road, it takes its name from St Leonard’s the ancient parish church of Shoreditch, where the builder a Mr Cockburn, from Richmond, had been born. He built the first houses which he called St Leonards sometime around 1850 on land that had previously been market gardens belonging to the Hampton estate.
