Place Name
Named after a former property, The Firs, which occupied the west side of Sheen Lane, and was owned for a time by Edward Meyer. Both Firs Avenue and Sheen Gate Gardens were built over its grounds in 1909. The house itself was knocked down in 1947 having suffered considerable bomb damage after a flying bomb hit nearby Palmerston Gardens on July 31, 1944. Two were killed, 17 injured.
