Oban Street, E14

Place Name

Named after the port town of Oban on the west coast of Scotland. Developers sought inspiration from many sources to come up with original names for the roads of their new residential estates. Hugh McIntosh (1768 – 1840), a Scottish civil engineering contractor, bought the Aberfeldy Village Estate in 1823 and with builder John Abbott they laid out the new roads named after places from McIntosh’s homeland.
