A literal description, as this street looks over The Spencer Club playing fields founded in 1872, although this sports ground came much later. This large area of open space also includes a number of facilities, including the Beatrix Potter Primary School, allotments, rugby and hockey pitches, bowling greens, cricket clubs, and tennis courts. Magdalen College in Oxford owned extensive area around Earlsfield, and began to develop it for housing from the early 1930s.
