Place Name
The Angel Inn, after which this stretch of the A406 is known, was knocked down in 1968 to make way for improvements to the North Circular. A hostelry, in one form or another, had stood in the area since at least the 17thCentury and became so well known, that like Islington gave its name to the area, the Angel Edmonton. By the 1860s it had became a destination for horse-drawn omnibus services and in the early 20thCentury for some of London’s first motor buses. It was an ideal location, situated on a crossroads of Fore Street, Silver Street and Angel Road.
