The Pickwick Papers was Charles Dickens’s widely successful first novel – originally told as a part work – it follows the exploits of Samuel Pickwick, a retired successful businessman, and his band of followers in the Pickwick Club. Pursuing what they believe to be intellectual and philosophical fact finding, they are in fact just a drinking club. This is one of a cluster of streets named after characters from Charles Dickens’s works, the others being Copperfield Way, Dickens Drive, and Dorrit Way. There is no local connection. It is a late 20thCentury housing estate built over the former properties called Fairlawn and Woodpeckers. Developers would often name their streets in themes.
