Place Name
A slip road leading from the A4 to the village of Sipson. The village was first recorded as Sibwineston sometime around the mid-12thCentury. It comes from the name of an Anglo-Saxon landholder Sibwine and tūn meaning homestead or village. Over the centuries the name of the village was corrupted become Sybbeston around 1310, Sibston in 1391, Sybeston in 1410, and finally Sipson in 1638.
