Place Name
An area much redeveloped throughout the 20thCentury. First laid out and occupied between 1990 and 2001, this is part of the redevelopment of the Cathall Estate by the Waltham Forest Housing Action Trust in which street names were inspired by rural estates and plants of use to people, perhaps as a reminder of the area’s agricultural past. As well as Birch Grove, there is Corn Way, Peppermint Place and Pine Close. There is also a cluster of streets nearby named after fruits, namely: Pear Road, Apple Road, Melon Road, Orange Grove and Peach Grove.
