Place Name
Thought to be named after a medieval manor, known as Little Beehive, which was located between Beehive Lane and Inglehurst Gardens, Eastern Avenue south and Somersby Gardens north. For many years it was owned by the Fuller and Osbaston families. In 1693 it was sold to John Lethieullier (1633 – January 4, 1719) who a years later bought the nearby Aldersbrook Manor. On Chapman and Andre’s 1777 map and Cary’s 1786 map Little Beehive is shown with a complex of adjoining, ancillary buildings and Daniel Lysons records that by 1796 it was in use as a farmhouse, though three years later it had been demolished, as it not shown on the Ordnance Survey map of that year. The street itself appears on the Ordnance Survey Map published in 1897.
