Place Name
Stanmore House has stood on Kew Road since at least 1878 and consequently gave its name to the road which was laid out in 1885. The name comes from Stanmore, which means stoney wetlands, in Harrow but there is no clear reason why it was chosen. Nearby Stanmore Gardens is also named after the house.
