PLACE NAME
This short lane led from Parkshot to the Old Deer Park, which was created by James I in 1604 as a hunting ground connected to Richmond Palace. Its first buildings were the Roman Catholic St Elizabeth School, built in 1841, and the temporary ‘iron church’, which had been transferred from Teddington, for use by the Baptist congregation but later used by breakaway Anglicans from St John the Baptist Anglican church which in 1879 was split on doctrinal grounds. It was used until their new Christ Church was built in Kew Road in 1894. Its first houses appeared from 1880.
