Place name
Remembers Lavender Mount, a 16thCentury earthwork thought to have been a windmill base or beacon-mound. It survived, on the bank of the Roding river behind, what is today the primary school but was previously the site of Uphill Farm, that is until 1960 when it was removed to make way for extensions to Howards Chemical plant. The name itself is said to have been derived, about 1800, from a tenant of Uphill Farm. This street (and the primary school) were built during the early 20thCentury.
