Place Names

Built on the site of Coval Lodge, Temple Sheen, which stood from around 1855 until it was demolished in 1933.  From at least 1875, it was the home of a Thomas Charles Mills and his family. This was build in 1910, Coval Gardens, where the house stood was not completed until 1935. A coval is another name for a blacksmith but whether the house replaced one is uncertain. By 1911 the property was put up for auction by Fairbrother, Ellis, Egerton, Breach, Galsworthy and Co. Describing it as a “delightfully secluded freehold property known as Coval Lodge, Temple Sheen Road, comprising of an old fashioned family residence, stabling, cottages,, cow house, pleasure grounds, orchard and kitchen garden, altogether about 2 1/2 acres.”
