Place Name
Perhaps an ill-suited name since this was laid out on the edge of a former rifle range. The original road was called Thackery Drive. This is one of a number of name changes introduced around 2009, following the £140m regeneration of a run-down estate in Rayners Lane Estate. As part of the scheme, which has been a graffiti hotspot, residents were allowed to pick the names for the newly created roads. They chose several perhaps reflecting their hopes for a more pleasant and calmer environment. Other names picked include the nearby Harmony Terrace and Goodwill Drive. The term karma comes from Indian religions to do with cause and effect and reincarnation respectively. Dr David Green, a geographer from King’s College London, told the Sunday Telegraph: “Street names reflect modern culture and society and preoccupations. They now also show a worldwide influence.”
