Place Name
Named for the nearby wharf, used by the Arnhem Timber Company, timber importers, from the mid-1960s. This much redeveloped area was once in the heart of London’s busy docks which were still operating until the mid-1980s. This was previously the site of Timothy’s Wharf and Burney & Company’s tank and cistern works. In the 1970s also incorporated Mellish’s Wharf. It the 1980s the area was extensively redeveloped by the London Docklands Development Corporation, which paid for the local school.
