William Pymme, was a 14thCentury estate owner, whose family had earlier been granted land in Edmonton by Edward II. Pymmes Brook runs close to here and had previously been called Medeseye, meaning slow-moving meadow stream, from around 1200. In 1327, he was recorded as building the original Pymmes House on the north side of Watery Lane in Edmonton, now known as Silver Street. The house was sited in what is now Pymmes Park. The Pymmes Brook, named after the family, runs through the park. In 1362 he entered into certain transactions relating to land with Adam Fraunceys. Over the ensuing centuries the house was significantly remodelled but demolished after a fire in 1940.
