Place Name
Takes its name from the nearby Lampton Park in Hounslow which was previously part of the estate of Lampton House. From the early 18th century the village was the property of the Bulstrodes, lords of the manor of Hounslow. The village, which comes from the Old English words lamb and tūn meaning the enclosure were lambs are reared, was first recorded as such in 1376 as Lamptonfeld becoming Lampton in 1426 and later Lambton in 1611. David Mills in a Dictionary of London Place Names notes: “Its situation just south of Osterley (also a name related to sheep farming) is interesting.”
