Place Name
Named after the village of Minster, also known as Minster-in-Thanet, in Kent, two miles away from the Powell-Cotton family’s extensive Quex Park estate. The village of Minster is thought to be named after an early monastery. This road was laid out over Shoot Up Hill Farm which had been bought as an investment in 1773 by John Powell. The following year he bought Kilburn Wood Farm. These farms were passed down through the family. Once the railways lines in the Kilburn area were established the land began to be sold for housing. All the roads were named after places local to Quex Park and later after places Major Powell-Cotton visited on his travels – particularly Abyssinia 1899-1900.
