Place Name
The Elers family were large landowners in the Ealing area, although they themselves mostly lived in Chelsea and had large estates in Suffolk, Leicester and Warwick. The original Peter Elers came over from Germany when George I was made king. His only-child, a son, also named Peter was a justice of the peace for Middlesex, in 1715, he married Dorothy, the youngster daughter of Thomas Carew, of Carew Castle, Pembrokeshire. It was through this marriage that he appeared to have come into a great deal of land. In 1881 the Ealing Local Board, fearing that the the large remaining open space was to be lost bought 23 acres and in 1883 Lammas Park opened, it was subsequently extended west to Northfield Lane by arrangement with the Elers Estate, and a lodge was built at the new entrance.
