Place name
One of a number of roads alluding to the Roman Empire, Corsica is an island off the west coast of Italy. Like Baalbec Road, Liberia Road, Gallia Road, and Calabria Road it forms part of a small cluster of local street names referencing Roman provinces. The Roman conquest of Corsica began in 259BC, when Lucius Cornelius Scipio captured Aleria and several Corsican tribes, in the course of the First Punic War. The developers are thought to have been influenced by the long held belief that a Roman summer camp had been at or near Highbury Hill. This road was laid out sometime around 1890 although it was originally called Highbury Mews.
