Place Name
Mitali is the Bengali word for friendship, which given that Tower Hamlets is home to the largest Bangladeshi population in the country, making up 32 per cent of our population, should be of no surprise. Street names often reflect the area, its people and local history where they are situated. At the turn of the 19thCentury this had been called Munday’s Place.
