One of a cluster of local streets named after Essex towns and villages: Felstead Road, Thaxted Road, Blackmore Road, Pentlow Way, Greensted Road, Roydon Close, Danbury Road, Kirby Close, Boxted Close. Felsted (sometimes spelt Felstead) is a village and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. It is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Felesteda, Felstede and Phensteda in the Hundred of Hinckford, a hundred being a former administrative division of a larger region. It was held by Ælfgar, Earl of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia and son of Lady Godiva who famously rode naked—covered only by her long hair—through the streets of Coventry in protest against the oppressive taxation her husband Earl Leofric imposed. The street itself was laid out in the second half of the 20thCentury.
