In honour of King Edward VII (November 9, 1841 – May 6, 1910), King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Emperor of India from January 22, 1901, until his death in 1910. Albert Edward was the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was seen by many as a playboy but he was also a royal moderniser, although he kept out of politics, he did help reorganise the British army and widened the circle of people who mixed with royals. He also pioneered the idea of royal public appearances as they are understood today, opening the Thames Embankment in 1871, the Mersey Tunnel in 1886, and Tower Bridge in 1894. He was married to Alexandra of Denmark, who has a road named after her nearby.
