Robert Frederick Chelsea Moore OBE (April 12, 1941 – February 24, 1993) was an English football player. He most notably played for West Ham United, winning West Ham Player Of The Year in 1961, 1963, 1968 and 1970. He captained the club for more than ten years, and was the captain of the England national team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, and was cited by Pelé as the greatest defender that he had ever played against. Moore was born in Barking and in 2016 became the first footballer to be honoured with an English Heritage Blue Plaque outside his childhood home at 43 Waverley Gardens, Essex. In August 2008, West Ham United officially retired his number 6 shirt, 15 years after his death.
