Remembering the Charles Crescent or West Harrow Swimming Pool which opened on the site of the former Harrow Water Works in 1923. It was sold off by the Council in the early 1980s and the land developed for residential property. Documents from Harrow Council’s planning meeting held in April 1983 revealed that: “The use of this site including the examination of alternative recreational uses has been considered by the Leisure, General, Public Services-and Housing Committees and, the Estates and Strategic Planning Sub-Committee since 1978. In the event of this application being approved the site will be sold and the project carried out by a Housing Association. The drawings submitted for the proposal indicate four blocks laid out in a rectangle around the existing pool which would be filled and landscaped to provide an amenity area for the occupants.”
