Isabella Mary Beeton (March 12, 1836 – February 6, 1865) better known to the world as Mrs Beeton author of the 1861 work Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management lived at Woodridings, near Pinner. Indeed she began writing the articles that were to form the book in 1859 while living there and left around the time they were published in book form in the autumn of 1861. Her book was an instant success, selling over 60,000 copies in its first year of publication and nearly two million by 1868. The name Beeton became a byword for domestic authority. She initially found fame writing articles for her husband, Samuel Orchart Beeton, who was an ambitious publisher with her first features appearing in The Englishwoman’s Domestic Magazine. She died of an infection following the birth of her fourth child.
