Place Name
Anthony Bacon was the older brother of the more famous philosopher and statesman Francis Bacon. When their father, Sir Nicholas Bacon who was the Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, died he left Pinner Park a farm that was first mentioned in 1560, to his eldest son by his second marriage. The decision infuriated the eldest son, also called Nicholas, who took legal action. Much judicial wrangling followed. According to the Francis Bacon Research Trust: “Eventually matters were settled, but the two pairs of half-brothers were never close again.”
