- The 1572 Survey of Enfield had this marked as Enfield Grene but over time, as development continued apace, the green was progressively encroached upon until by 1754 all allusions of grass were formally abandoned and it assumed its present name. Today the only surviving remnant is the small paved area surrounding a fountain.
