Place Name
Named after the earls of Dorset, landowners in this area. It was previously called Salisbury Court, after the London home of the bishops of Salisbury until it was acquired by Thomas Sackville (1536 – April 19, 1608), the 1st Earl of Dorset, who made a fortune through his land dealings in many counties, as well as from his investments in the iron foundry business. The name was first mentioned in 1720.
