Place Name
Named after Sir William Capel (about 1446 – 1515) who bought the manor of Honeylands in 1486 from Jane, wife of Sir Thomas Lewknor and the widow of Sir John Yonge. Sir William was a member of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, who served as Sheriff of the City of London in 1496, and Lord Mayor in 1503 and again in 1510. He was elected a member of Parliament for the City of London from 1511 to 1515. In 1546 his grandson Sir Edward Capel and two other landowners surrendered the manor to the Crown.
