Place Name
Named after Silvanus Grove, a successful quaker merchant who took ownership of the Elmhurst estate after he came to Woodford in 1770. The estate was originally much larger than it would initially seem today, having been divided up by the coming of the railway in 1856 separating much of the land from the house. And later in 1926, the original Southend Road, cut off another section.
