Place Name
One of a number of nearby roads that are named after prominent figures in the New River Company, the early 17thCentury scheme that created a man-made canal to channel fresh water from Hertfordshire into the burgeoning City. Samuel Garnault (1751 – March 11, 1827), was the long-serving company treasurer, who in 1820 bought up fields around the head of the river to develop.
