Place Name
Named after Peter Crawford, the landlord of a former pub called the Pickled Egg which was based at 7 and 8 Crawford Passage from 1760. The passage was apparently called Pickled Egg Walk but features in John Rocque’s 1746 map as Hockley Hole. However it was Crawfords Passage by the time Richard Horwood was drawing his plan of the City in 1799, some 50 years later.
