Place Name
First written down as Kyrunelane in 1234. In 1306 it was written as Kyron Lane and in 1361 as Kyroun Lane. Stow gives the name as Kery Lane. Later spellings include Kerry Lane, Carie Lane and Cary Lane. The name may be connected with the family name of a man or woman named Kerion, Kirone or Kyrone as in the case of Kyrune Lane. John Stow in his Survey of London published in 1598 says the place was named after someone called Kery.
