Place Name
This short close, certainly doesn’t lend itself to being a lane in the traditional sense and that is because it is not and never has been. It is in fact named in honour of a local son, the Plaistow-born musician Ronald Frederick Lane (April 1, 1946 – June 4, 1997), one of the founding members of 1960s rock band Small Faces. Along with band mate Steve Marriott he wrote hits including Itchycoo Park and All or Nothing. In the late 1970s he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. After living with the condition for 21 years, he died aged 51. This street was named after him in 2001.
