Place Name
The Barclay family, like the Frys, Gurneys, Listers and Howards, were among the most eminent Quakers of the early 19thCentury living in the area. They had made their fortune as bankers and had built up a sizeable estate, Barclay Park, buying neighbouring properties around Leyton. The estate was bounded by the present Lea Bridge Road, Leyton Green Road, and James Lane, and adjoined the Forest House estate.
