Place Name
This is named in honour of Elizabeth Talwin, who in 1795 left £1,600 (worth roughly £2.2m today) in her will to provide bread and coal for the parish poor. Sheila Fairfield in The Streets of London writes: “A family called Talwin or Talwyn were active in trade in Bromley at the time; Talwyn Lloyd and Co. were calico printers working at Bromley Hall in the 1780s and they were later recorded as Talwyn and Foster.”
