Place Name
A post-war development, this street celebrates the principle industry that the protestant Huguenots brought to the area as they fled religious persecution in France from the late 17thCentury. Their skill as masters of tapestries, hangings, weaving and fabrics made their work highly sought after and it is thought that by 1831 some 20,000 looms operated in the area as a booming cottage industry, the factory system for this craft not being adopted.
