Place Name
A corruption of Sherard House, in south-east London. It was the former property of Dr James Sherard (November 1666 – February 12, 1738), an eminent physician in the early part of the 18thCentury, who planted a botanical garden in the grounds. Sherard House was part of the Eltham estate owned by the Woodgrange Estate developer Archibald Corbett, 1st Baron Rowallan.
